The Black Cult & Obscura

Obscura

Obscura is the name of the Black Mother, the Devil of darkness, or simply, the Goddess of darkness, cold, and obscurity.

A perennial rival of Solis. Obscura embodies darkness, cold, obscurity, and freedom. Loving and merciful, she grants her forgiveness to all her followers, whom she regards as her children.

Her cult grew rapidly but was nearly exterminated during the War of the Lock against the Empress. Shortly after, Solis declared war, initiating the War of Flames, which further buried the cult and sealed Obscura in the Nether.

She was freed at the same time as the Empress of the Void but remained discreet, fearing being devoured by the Empress, as she was weak at that moment. It is said that one of her tears was shed when her cult disappeared, and another when the Great Black Cardinal vanished.

The Black Cult

The Black Cult, also known as the Dark Cult, is the name adopted by the Cultists of Obscura. Now reduced to this title, they work discreetly for their goddess, whether through charitable acts disguised as patrons of Solis, assassinations of inquisitors, or generally operating in secrecy. Those who pray to Obscura do so in the utmost silence and discretion. There are “Sabbaths” where cultists gather to pray together and share knowledge and motivations.

Before the War of Flames

Once, the Black Cult known as the “Church of Obscura” was strong, powerful, and respected. Greatly loved, and although some skirmishes with Solis occurred, nothing foreshadowed what was to come. However, when the Empress of the Void arrived, they were put on the front lines, and a significant portion of the church was exterminated.

Following this, Solis declared war on the Church of Obscura, already weakened, and ended its reign by sealing it. The cult was exterminated, abandoned, and despite a few remaining faithful scattered around the world, the cult was considered “extinct”.

Return of Obscura

Obscura returned from the Nether at the same time as the Empress of the Void. She remained discreet for a long time before slowly beginning to manifest among her isolated worshippers again. Slowly, the cult regained popularity, and it was forced upon the Church of Solis to acknowledge its return. This act also ridiculed the Seat of Solis, as it did not take into account the messages delivered by Father Atom.
